Postpartum hospital stay

Our maternity ward allows women giving birth to be accompanied by a family member living with them – they can offer support and be there when the baby is born.

You will be given enough time to get acquainted with the newborn baby together in the delivery room. After birth, families can spend two hours together. During this time, the child will have skin-to-skin contact with their mother or father and will also get their first breastfeeding experience.

After that, women will be sent to rest in the postpartum room together with their child and any family members must leave the hospital.

When packing for your hospital stay, remember to keep your own wellbeing in mind. You never know what the duration of the birth will be or how long you will have to stay at the hospital with the child. You can bring your favourite snacks and drinks with you to the hospital to have a bite during or after the delivery.

Mothers will be served three meals a day in the postpartum room. Since you will not be able to go outside during your hospital stay, we recommend packing your own snacks and treats. If your hospital stay is longer than two days, your family and friends will be allowed to send packages which may contain snacks, drinks and personal belongings.

The rooms have free Wi-Fi so be sure to take your phone and/or laptop charger to be able to use the devices at the hospital.

New mothers are advised to stay in the maternity ward for 48 hours. This period is necessary for mothers to recover and to allow us to monitor the wellbeing of the mother and child. After birth, we provide mothers with breastfeeding support and counselling. The hospital staff offer assistance to mothers where possible and help them take care of their newborn child.
